With summer just around the corner, it's time for light, sweet cocktails to ring in the season. Celebrate with this beautiful patriotic triple-berry spritzer. Made with a triple berry simple syrup, tequila, and lemon-lime soda it's the perfect way to enjoy the summertime!
There are sometimes that the recipes in my head don't turn out as well as planned. Honestly, I usually do a lot of research before trying to create a new recipe, in order to make sure that I don't have to make it multiple times to get it right. With a toddler, time is not my friend, so I have to be as efficient as I can be.

But this recipe.... was another story. I had the idea in mind for a patriotic, berry spritzer for my monthly cocktail collaboration with my blog besties. I decided on a wine spritzer, honestly because I am still learning about making cocktails with liquor and I figured wine is a popular summer drink already! I tried three different types of wine with a variety of mix-ins to try to come up with this recipe and every single one flopped.
I am not picky when it comes to wine. I prefer sweeter blends, but I'll drink chardonnay if I have to. For whatever reason though, every blend I tried to use for this recipe just flopped. I talked to my blogger friend, Erin, about it and she convinced me to try leaving out the wine completely and just using liquor.
Since tequila is always my liquor of choice, I had it on hand and went for it. The result was so tasty and refreshing! This drink is fairly light on the liquor, which is perfect for summer because it won't weigh you down.
I made a quick triple berry simple syrup to go in this to really bring out the fruit flavors in this drink. If you've never made a simple syrup before it's so easy. You just combine water, sugar, and your mix-ins (fruit, herbs, etc.), heat on medium until the sugar is dissolved and in this case, the fruit is cooked down. Then you let it cool completely and strain the mixture to get just the syrup out. It's such an easy way to sweeten and flavor a cocktail!
One thing I did notice about this little cocktail of mine is that the berries had a hard time floating above the ice, so if you're looking for a pretty look, you may way to skip the ice OR be sure the ice is a layer that is full enough to let the berries sit on top of the ice. Just my two cents on the whole pretty-looking cocktail.

Oh my goodness, this looks so good! IMHO tequila is underused outside of the margarita and I think this spritzer sounds perfectly refreshing! I can't wait for it to warm up officially so I can enjoy one of these!
