Caramel Apple Smoothie
This Caramel Apple Smoothie is probably my favorite smoothie I've ever made. It has all the wonderful flavors of a caramel apple packed into a healthy smoothie.
Caramel Apple Smoothie Recipe
My go-to breakfast is always something carb-filled. I love bagels, waffles, pancakes, buttered toast, fruit on toast, breakfast sandwiches — basically anything that's loaded in carbs!
But most of the time I try to ignore change that unhealthy (but oh-so-tasty) habit by coming up with breakfast foods that are extremely delicious, but lack the carbs.
One main way I've been succeeding at that goal is by getting creative with my smoothies! My newest creation, this Caramel Apple Smoothie, is probably my favorite smoothie I've ever made. It has all the wonderful flavors of a caramel apple packed into a smoothie! Yum!
I'm a sucker for a caramel apple. Every time I'm at a carnival or a fair, that's always my go-to dessert. So when I thought up this recipe late at night in bed (usually where all my recipe creations are dreamt up), I couldn't wait to wake up the next morning to get all of the ingredients in the blender!
2024 update: This recipe was originally created for Joyfully Mad by Cat of The Rustic Willow, a blog that is no longer online. This year I updated the recipe with some healthier ingredients. I also incorporated new tips & tricks, and added new imagery of the recipe, including step-by-step process photos.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
With all the flavor of a caramel apple, you know it's going to be good, but you won't realize just how good it is going to be. One sip and you won't be able to wait to drink the rest!
- Smoothies give you so much nutritional value, and you barely realize it! All of the nutrition is hiding in that scrumptious drink you're sipping.

- They're a delicious, nutritious snack or breakfast. My kids love them!
- There's no caramel sauce here! This recipe is au naturele.

Substitutions & Variations
What I love about smoothies is how customizeable they are!

- Nut free: Substitute your favorite non-dairy milk and nut butter.

Madison's Pro Smoothie Tip:
To make sure you are maxing out your blender's capabilities to yield a smoothie with a great and delicious consistency, always load up your blender pitcher in the following order:
- liquids first
- then soft fruits or vegetables
- then greens
- then frozen fruits and ice
- any powders on top
Tips & Tricks
Here are some tips and tricks for making this recipe:
- Use frozen fruit: Freezing bananas beforehand will make your smoothie extra cold and thick without needing to add ice, which can dilute your smoothie.
- Adjust sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add a touch more maple syrup or a pitted date before blending.
- Customize toppings: Sprinkle granola, chopped nuts or a pinch of sea salt on top for added texture and flavor. This one works great as a smoothie bowl, too.
How to Store Leftover Smoothie
There are so many ways to easily store leftovers from a smoothie recipe. Depending on when you want to drink your leftover smoothie, there are a few great options on how to store it.
I have a whole post about how to store leftover smoothie, but here's a quick summary:
- Freezer: You can pour your smoothie into ice cube trays or popsicle molds and freeze it. Then let it thaw, or add it to a blender with milk and drink up! Alternatively, you can do the same by freezing your smoothie in Ziplock bags and laying them flat in the freezer.
- Fridge: Store leftover smoothie in mason jars, or another airtight container, and give it a good shake when you're ready to drink it.
- Freeze ingredients: If you're a fan of a fresh smoothie, you can still make things easier on yourself by freezing the ingredients for your smoothies. Measure out the ingredients for your smoothie, place them in zip-top bags or ice cube trays, and they're ready to pop in the blender as needed!
FAQ
You can replace flax seeds with chia seeds, hemp seeds or omit them altogether if preferred.
It's best enjoyed fresh, but you can prepare the ingredients the night before and store them in the fridge. Blend everything together when you're ready to drink.
