Green Apple Smoothie Recipe

Smoothies are a great way to quickly whip up a nutritious breakfast you can eat on-the-go! This healthy green apple smoothie is one of my favorites. An apple a day, right?

I'm always thankful for a quick breakfast on busy mornings. Plus there's endless possibilities with smoothie flavors, so I never get burnt out!

Some of my favorite smoothies are chocolate banana smoothies, pineapple smoothies and of course this green apple smoothie.

This delicious drink is extra good in the fall when apples are in season. But I'll make it any time of year because it's almost like candy in smoothie form, and I never turn down candy!

Why I Love This Recipe

This easy smoothie recipe will quickly become one of your favorites. Apples are easy to keep on hand, and the rest of these healthy ingredients are probably already in your fridge and freezer.

Here's why I love this green apple smoothie:

  • It only has five ingredients, so it's easy to throw together when you're still half asleep in the mornings.
  • An apple spinach banana smoothie is kid-friendly and packed with vitamins and minerals. Apples are a great source of Vitamin C, so you can use this smoothie as an immune system booster for your family.
  • Green apple smoothies are perfect for a midday pick-me-up in place of that afternoon cup of coffee.
  • This green smoothie recipe is perfect to use as a detox smoothie!

Ingredients

This green apple smoothie only requires five simple ingredients:

  • almond milk: I recommend using unsweetened almond milk, but any almond milk or dairy-free milk (like coconut milk) will work great!
  • green apple: A Granny Smith apple is the most commonly used variation of green apple, but any type of green apple would taste delicious.
  • fresh spinach: Frozen spinach works fine, but you might not need a full 2 cups. You can also use fresh kale or any other leafy greens you'd prefer.
  • frozen pineapple: I like to buy frozen fruit in bulk! It's cheaper and will last for a while in my freezer.
  • frozen banana: You can either buy these in the freezer section at your local grocery store, or freeze your own bananas when you have extras that you'd like to keep from going bad.

Substitutions

Green apples add a tartness to this smoothie, but if you want to make this with red apples, feel free. You may not want to add an additional sweetener though because red apples are sweeter.

Feel free to use any kind of milk for this recipe. Coconut milk, oat milk or almond milk would all be delicious.

To add more natural sweetness to your smoothie, throw in a bit of maple syrup or honey. Even some medjool dates would taste great!

Add a scoop of collagen or your favorite protein powder to up the protein content of this healthy smoothie recipe. Chia seeds or flax seeds are another great addition.

If you'd like to make a thicker smoothie, you can add a scoop or two of greek yogurt to the mix. See more tips for making a smoothie thicker (or thinner).

I like adding a little bit of granola to mine for some crunch. This smoothie also works as a green smoothie bowl. Pair it with a slice of Air Fryer Egg Toast and you have a complete breakfast.
