Greyson Michael: 6 Months

A couple of weeks ago, little Grey turned six months old. I can't believe how fast this half year has flown by. Sooner than I realize we will be celebrating his first birthday. A few quick updates... Greyson is over 17 pounds and 28.5 inches tall (90th percentile!). He's in 6 month tops, but 9 month bottoms and almost grown out of those already. He just started sitting up after watching his friends do it! He loves to talk, snuggle and still nursing like a champ. He's started eating table foods whenever we have something he can gnaw on. He's still the sweetest thing.

When I was in the hospital the day he was born, I wrote him a quick little letter than I plan to hand write out eventually and give to him some day. I continued the trend by writing another letter this past weekend, overwhelmed with emotion over him turning six months and celebrating my first Mother's Day. I thought I'd share this letter as a part of this update to share where my heart is after six months of being a mama to this little boy.

Dear Greyson,

The last letter I wrote you was the day you were born. Everyone always tells you that it goes by quickly, but it's amazing how right they were. Just yesterday it feels like you were still in my tummy, kicking all the time. I can hardly believe you're here with us already, but you're already almost seven months old.?

I truthfully never knew it was possible to have so much love for someone. It's completely different from the love I have for your daddy. That love grew over time. The love I have for you was always there and the moment I held you for the first time, it completely overtook me.?

Right now you need me for everything. It's the most exhausting and fulfilling job I could ask for. But with every diaper change, every time you fight me to take a nap, or with every mess I clean up, I'm reminded that this season will pass, sooner than I'm ready for it to. It's hard to imagine a time when you won't need me this much, but I know that day is coming quickly.?

Tonight we were out past your bedtime, which is always hard on you. You love to fight sleeping unless you're in your room with your music on and the lights off. There is so much world for you to see and you hate to miss a thing. Once I finally got you to sleep, instead of putting you in your crib right away, I held onto you for an extra minute. I held back tears as I thought about how this is our last first Mother's Day. Next year you'll be totally different, exploring the world in a new way.?

That love I talked about having for you is also a heart breaking love. I hurt when you hurt, I'm happy when you're happy, I'm usually even sleepy when you're sleepy. You are so much a part of me now that it's hard to separate myself from being your mama.?
?
If there's one thing I hope to teach you as you grow, it's that there will be many ways to identify yourself throughout your life. The world will tell you that you are a lot of things and that you can be a lot of things. There will be many choices throughout your life. But I hope above all else, you choose Christ. Because your identity in Him is at the core of who you are. Without that identity, nothing else matters. Nothing else will sustain you.?

So even though I am your mama and it's the greatest job I could ask for, each day I have to pray to remember that I'm His first, then your Daddy's and then yours. Right now you need me the most, so it's easy to put you first. But Jesus and Daddy will always be my first and foremost. I hope that example will someday mean something to you. I hope you someday can see the great big love your Daddy and I have for Jesus because of who He is and the things He does.?

    This is so sweet! 6 months is such a fun age. It's so fun to see them reaching so many milestones and interacting more. Writing letters is such a wonderful idea. I really need to write one while I'm pregnant!

    This was absolutely beautiful. I'm not a mom yet but this letter makes me so excited to experience the love you have for your little boy. I love how you explain how Jesus will always be first, then your husband. It's such a good reminder and I love how transparent you were with struggling with that as well. I could only imagine how hard that could be sometimes. Thank you again for your beautiful words, they really touched my heart.
