The holiday season is always one that brings back memories of past Christmases. Every year we spend a lot of time sitting around the table and sharing stories from Christmases past, whether it be over dinner, dessert or a family game. Traditions run pretty deep in our family and we never have to wonder how our Christmas mornings will be spent. This Christmas, these traditions are especially important to me as Greyson joins our family for his first Christmas. Though he doesn’t know it yet, he’ll be taking part in some wonderful traditions that have been a part of our family since before I can remember. This year, I’m adding a special twist to one of the best traditions I think our family has.
A few years ago, I spent my first Christmas away from my family to spend the holiday with Steven’s side of the family. My mother in law asked me if there were any traditions that were really important to me that they could adopt to try to make it feel more like a normal Christmas to me. There was only one big tradition that popped in my head that I knew would make the day feel more special to me.
Every Christmas we always start the day with Christmas music playing, the fire lit, cinnamon rolls, and a fresh cup of hot coffee. Over the years, we have entertained a debate about having something different for breakfast but we have never been able to bring ourselves to have anything other than our usual cinnamon rolls.
Because this year is extra special to our family, I decided to play along with our usual traditions and came up with the perfect gift idea to go along with our breakfast routine on Christmas morning. This year, each of the family members that will be with us on Christmas morning will have a special gift under the tree to celebrate their new “roles” in the family this year.
With new grandparents, a new mama and daddy, a new great grandmother and a new uncle all sitting around our tree this year, I thought it was only fitting that we have personalized mugs to celebrate the occasion. Because we all like different coffee, this is also the perfect excuse to package up some Starbucks K-cups so that each person has the kind of coffee that they like.
I always love giving personalized gifts that are one of a kind, which is why these mugs were right up my alley. A few months ago, I made a handful of coffee mugs for my friends that hosted our baby shower in North Carolina. After making them once, I knew how easy it would be to make a set of personalized Christmas coffee mugs for my family.
To make your own DIY Christmas mugs, you’ll need a Silhouette machine (or similar die cutting machine) and vinyl. You can create your design using the Silhouette design studio and then cut it out of the vinyl material in your favorite color. Then use transfer paper to transfer the design onto your coffee mug. These mugs should be hand washed to make them last longer.
If you’re looking for a great stocking stuffer or personalized gift idea, grab a pack of your loved one’s favorite Starbucks K-cup variety and make a personalized Christmas coffee mug. Get a $5 Starbucks Card e-gift when you purchase 3 or more qualifying Starbucks products. The perfect way to get your Christmas shopping done in one place! I picked up these K-cup varieties and a bag of ground Starbucks coffee at Target.

Tell me more about this machine and where you buy the vinyl for these projects? The mugs look GORGEOUS!!! Everyone is going to love them. 🙂
Personalized gifts and family traditions never grow old. Does someone always make the cinnamon rolls or does that get swapped/shared each year? How did it become tradition?
For my family, sometime during my growing up years, we decided to have my Great-Grandpa’s waffles with strawberries and fresh whipped cream on Christmas morning. After a few years of this, it became tradition. Whenever you visited, that man ALWAYS made enough waffles with those toppings to feed an ARMY. My dad never cooks anything, except for on Christmas morning, when he is the official waffle guy now that my Great-Grandpa has passed away.
