When we first found out we were pregnant, we were pretty settled on not finding out the gender of our baby. We had always talked about wanting to be surprised for our first and up until a few weeks ago, we still were very set on that. Suddenly though, we started thinking more and more about it and decided that we really did want to find out. What especially made the decision easier for me was that Steven really felt like knowing the gender of the baby would help him to be better prepared for fathering the baby in a few months time. Dads have a lot tougher of a time adjusting to the idea of being a dad because I think it happens rather suddenly for them, whereas women have 40 weeks to come to terms with being a mother.
So anyways, after deciding that we did want to find out, we had to get planning. Ironically, we moved the week before we could have had our anatomy scan while in North Carolina, so the race was on to find a doctor in Arizona. Luckily, we were able to get in and see a doctor and have our ultrasound last week. We decided we wanted to do a “Color Run” spin off for our reveal by throwing colored powder at each other while our eyes were closed and then “revealing” the gender to each other at the same time by opening our eyes to see what color the other’s shirt was covered in.
We’re having a boy! I would say that I’m surprised, but the truth is I was already pretty convinced that we were having a boy, but my heart was holding out for the 50% chance that it could be a girl. But regardless, this little man is going to be extremely well loved when he is born and he already is now by our friends and family!
Before deciding to find out the gender, we had decided to pick out a boy’s name and a girl’s name that had the same initials, that way people could still have options for monograming and other things regardless of if they knew the gender. We are still so in love with our girl’s name and truly hope we can use it someday, but we are pretty smitten with our son’s name, too! It’s just all so hard to even believe sometimes.
I’ve always loved the name Greyson and actually had a friend remind me that I said I liked the name way back in 7th grade! Steven and I have actually had our baby names picked out since before we got engaged and still love all of them. Greyson was our favorite boy’s name and went perfectly with the girl’s name we chose as well. We chose a “family” middle name of Michael, which is my dad’s name and Steven’s brother’s name.
It’s definitely going to take time for me to adjust to calling our baby a “he” since we haven’t been able to call our babe anything but “it” since we found out we were pregnant. It’s definitely going to be nice to finally plan everything for a future nursery and everything else!
I haven’t done a great job of keeping up with documenting this pregnancy, for a few reasons. One being all of the insane craziness that has been going on outside of being pregnant like moving and Steven graduating. Second, this pregnancy has been (thankfully) very uneventful and up until a few weeks ago I wasn’t even showing yet, so there has been little to document! But for the sake of having this pregnancy documented, here’s a little review of the last couple of weeks in bump statuses.
15 weeks // 16 weeks // 18 weeks // 19 weeks
A huge thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of us over the last few months during this pregnancy 🙂
